Emily as Akira

This has got to be one of the more gruesome cosplay shoots I've done. Everything seemed pretty normal, just one more girl dressed up as a dude, until the fake blood came out. Then the creepy factor went way up, but I can't pretend I didn't enjoy the contrast.

Inspired by: Game of Thrones

I've been really taken with some of the portraits that HBO is putting out to promote Game of Thrones. The following one in particular, featuring Peter Dinklage/Tyrion Lannister has to be my favourite.

I was so inspired by the bloody thing that at this week's GoT viewing party, I hauled along some strobes and some gels and went to work creating the following. Tyrion's got a lot more grit on him than we do, so I went a bit extreme on the sharpness and contrast to make sure all of our dirtiness showed up. Other than those tweaks in CameraRAW, these are, pretty much, how they came out of the camera, and they stand as decent testament to the power of light.

PARADE is coming...

Stageworks Toronto has kicked off auditions for its 2013 summer production of Parade, and I have once again been hired to provide them with promotional photography for the show. They also asked if I could support them at auditions, providing quality headshots for anyone who showed up without one. In the gaps left by no-shows, I killed time by pointing my camera at members of the production staff.

Cosplay Shoot

Due to the furious insistence of a good friend who knows far more about these things, I took my first run at cosplay photography the other day, choosing the Evergreen Brickworks as a decent site for it since it offers such weirdo vistas as this:

In my few short hours with these very talented models (they each made their own costumes; here I was thinking they bought them!), I've come to the conclusion that it's now a toss up between actors and cosplayers when it comes to the award for "most fun to photograph." Here's a look at what we got up to:

Event: K-Pop vs. Lightsticks

The first Friday of every month sees the Annex Wreckroom taken over by Pop Goes the World, a K-pop dance event. I was asked by one of the event promoters to come out with my camera, and was I ever glad I did as the event featured all manner of interesting light.

ICE

On our final day in Algonquin last week, we decided to take in Ragged Falls. When we set out, we had no idea of the madness we would encounter at the actual waterfall...

Slack-lining over Ragged Falls

...and as my buddy and I had shown up packing glass, we were quickly roped into helping to document the feat. Thus, I wound up spending the better part of an hour, clinging to a rockface beneath the slack line, with this view at my feet:

Watch your step.

In order to keep myself entertained and to distract from the fact that my feet were quickly turning to blocks of ice, I lost myself in the final battle between winter and spring that was playing out among the moss on the cliff face. Once again, I'd only thought to bring my 35-70mm f2.8, but the archaic thing's marco feature certainly came in handy.

I give you ICE:
